The Cooperative Alliance for Regional Transportation (CART) is a regional public transportation service, administered through Manchester Transit Authority (MTA), that the Town of Salem participates in providing transportation options for Salem residents. CART has a low-cost on-demand response transportation services around southern New Hampshire as well as a free fixed-route 'Salem Shopper Shuttle' which runs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. Salem On-Demand CART Services
CART offers curb-to-curb demand-response transportation services around southern New Hampshire. Rides may be requested by contacting CART / MTA's call takers at 603-623-8801 and selecting option #2 between the hours of 6:30 am and 7:00 pm. If possible, please be sure to call at least a few days in advance of your requested ride date and time. When calling, please have the following information ready:

Age
Phone Number
Specific Travel Request (including start and end points of travel)
Any additional mobility accommodations
Salem's on-demand response shuttle has hours of operation Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm each day.
Each trip costs $2 per passenger per trip and $1 per child per trip age 5 through 15. Children under age 5 ride free. MTA requests that passengers bring exact cash, as drivers are unable to make change.
Transportation to Manchester is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays to the following locations:

CART also offers a free fixed-route 'Salem Shopper Shuttle' each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:15 am - 12:15 pm.
Shuttle riders may board the shuttle at any of the planned stops and depart at any designated stop along the route. Route deviations are allowed for passengers wishing to ride the shuttle. Deviations are permitted up to three-quarters of a mile from the scheduled route. This allows passengers who do not live at a scheduled stop to still ride the shuttle or be transported to destinations not listed as scheduled stops.
