Beginning January 1, 2026, municipal agent service fees in New Hampshire will increase. This adjustment affects vehicle registrations, title services, and related transactions. The updated fees are set by state law to help cover administrative costs and ensure continued service at your local town or city clerk’s office.
Residents should expect modest increases, such as $35 for new or duplicate titles and $40 for distinctive titles or VIN issuance. Please plan accordingly when renewing registrations or requesting title services in the new year.
The Salem Town Forest parking lot will be under intermittent maintenance next week between Monday, November 17 and Friday, November 21. The maintenance includes removal of dead trees, removal of the existing kiosk, and installation of a new kiosk. Please see the flyer for more information.

Salem Town Hall and the Ingram Senior Center will be closed on Monday, October 13, 2025 in observation of Columbus Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 8:30 am.
Town facilities including the Transfer Station, Town Hall, and Senior Center will be closed on Thursday, September 25 after 12:30 PM. These facilities will re-open at regular hours on Friday, September 26.
Salem Town Hall will be closed on Friday, July 4, 2025 in observation of Independence Day. We will reopen on Monday, July 7, 2025 at 8:30 am.
Salem Town Hall and the Ingram Senior Center will be closed on Thursday, June 19, 2025 in observation of Juneteenth. We will reopen on Friday, June 20, 2025.
On Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 4pm in the Knightly Meeting Room (Town Hall), a representative from LHS Associates will be on hand to demonstrate the Imagecast Precinct II Voting Tabulator, which will be replacing our current obsolete Accuvote Tabulators, beginning in March of 2026.
Citizens will have the opportunity to view the new machines and get a preview of their function, as well as understanding the modern security measures built into these new machines. The Imagecast Precinct II Tabulators are in use in several communities in NH already, as well as throughout the country. Our neighbors in Derry used them for the first time at their municipal election in March 2025, and everything went very smoothly.

On April 23, 2025, the Planning Board unanimously adopted the 2025 Town-wide Master Plan. You can view the Master Plan at either of the links below:
The Master Plan was guided and steered by the Master Plan Steering Committee, comprised of individuals from various Town committees and Salem residents at large. Many opportunities for public feedback were provided, including in-person workshops, surveys, public comment cards, etc.
The Master Plan Steering Committee page hosts all historical documentation of the process, including meeting recordings, presentations, documents, etc. At their final Steering Committee meeting on February 19, 2025, the Committee unanimously voted to recommend to the Planning Board to adopt the Master Plan.
The Mosquito Control program begins the week of April 7, 2025 in the Town of Salem. Crews from Dragon Mosquito Control, Inc. will be checking swamps, marshes, woodland pools, ditches, catch basins, storm drains and other shallow, stagnant water for mosquito larvae. When larvae are found, treatment may occur using one or more of the following insecticides:
VectoBac (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis 2.8%)
VectoBac 12 AS (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis 11.61%)
VectoPrime FG (Bacillus thuringiensis 6.07%, methoprene 0.10%)
Natular (spinosad 2.5%)

BVA 2 Mosquito Larvicide Oil (mineral oil 97.0%)
SunSpray MLO (mineral oil 98.8%)
Currently, there is no plan to conduct emergency spraying for disease carrying mosquitoes. The determination to spray adult mosquitoes at town and school owned property is made by town officials in consultation with Dragon. Recommendations are based on mosquito surveillance data, disease test results, weather conditions and other variables. Further public notification will be provided if emergency spraying is going to take place.

The Town of Salem, New Hampshire will be mailing the second installment of its 2024 property tax bill in early November 2024. This bill is due on or before December 6, 2024. An 8% per annum interest charge for unpaid balances will be assessed for balances paid after the due date. Currently, electronic copies of the tax bills are available online through the town’s website: https://www.salemnh.gov/
The new tax rate for 2024, which is reflected in this December billing and established by the State of New Hampshire, is as follows, per $1,000:
The invoice, due December 6, 2024, will be mailed in a first-class envelope, which will include a return envelope for the taxpayer’s convenience. By using this return envelope, the tax payment will be sent directly to the Town of Salem’s bank for processing. The remittance stub from the bill must be included with the check to ensure payment application accuracy. PROPERTY OWNERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO UTILIZE THE RETURN ENVELOPE.
PLEASE ALLOW EXTRA TIME WHEN MAILING TAX PAYMENTS TO ENSURE DELIVERY ON OR BEFORE THE DUE DATE. For homeowners who wish to receive a PAID receipt, please mail the entire bill with payment, and include a stamped, self-addressed, return envelope for the receipt.
Town Hall is open to the public from 08:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday for in-person payments. Drop boxes are located on the front steps of Town Hall and on the south-facing side entrance for those wishing to hand-deliver payments. The drop boxes are checked frequently. Please, no cash.
Property owners may also view and pay tax bills online by accessing our website at: https://www.salemnh.gov/Click on “Online Payments” in the middle of the home page and choose “Tax Department – View/Pay Property Tax Bills”. A fee of 2.95% is assessed for payments made using a credit card. However, there is NO FEE for payments made by electronic funds transfer (EFT) from a checking or savings account.
PARTIAL PAYMENTS ARE ALWAYS ACCEPTED! Please mail or drop off any partial payments directly to the Town of Salem, Attn: Tax Collector 33 Geremonty Drive, Salem, NH 03079.

Town of Salem Health Division Update August 2024: Salem has a comprehensive mosquito control program that begins annually in April and continues through October. The program involves surveying and treating wetlands and areas of stagnant water throughout the town. It also involves treating all the catch basins in our community (over 3000) and four traps are located in the town to collect and analyze mosquitoes which provides a good representation of the town’s mosquito population. Salem has had a mosquito control program for over 20 years to reduce the incidence of mosquito-borne illnesses.
The main components of the program include:
1. Larval Surveys & ‘Larvaciding’
Mosquito control commences each April in the Town of Salem. Crews from Dragon Mosquito Control, Inc. begin checking areas of stagnant water for mosquito activity. When mosquitoes are found, insecticides called ‘larvacides’ are applied directly to the stagnant water and are intended to prevent immature mosquitoes from developing into flying, biting adults. During the summer months, the crews treat all of the catch basins throughout the town.
2. Surveillance
Another critical component of the program is the inventory of the types of species of mosquitoes in Salem. Traps are located in four (4) areas of the town which collect adult mosquitoes in order to determine the extent of mosquito activity and the types of mosquitoes present. Over 20 species of mosquitoes have been identified in Salem and this information is important to conclude if we have the species that typically carry West Nile Virus (WNV) or Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). After identification, the mosquitoes are sent to the NH State Laboratory to determine if they are carrying either one of these viruses.
3. ‘Adulticiding’
If WNV or EEE becomes a public health threat in Salem, ‘adulticiding’ (adult spraying) may be considered. Areas to be sprayed will be determined based on locations of birds and mosquitoes found positive with one of these viruses. Street spraying was conducted in 2005 due to positive mosquitoes and birds (for EEE & WNV) found in Salem. Salem last found positive mosquitoes for West Nile Virus in 2021.
To summarize, Salem’s mosquito control program begins in April with crews checking and spraying wet areas to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. During the summer months, it expands to treatment of catch basins to prevent breeding in these structures. Also, during the summer months, mosquitoes are collected in 4 traps throughout the town to determine the types of mosquitoes. This is important as certain species are more prone to transmit illness to people. The mosquitoes are also sent to the state lab to determine if they are carrying any of the viruses of concern. Finally, if there is a potential health threat to residents of Salem due to the presence of a confirmed case, adult spraying may be considered. This type of spraying is done via a truck mounted sprayer and backpack sprayers. It is usually done at night to kill flying mosquitoes. Locations may include parks and athletic fields as well as streets in the area of the confirmed case.

At the joint Master Plan Steering Committee and Planning Board meeting on February 19, 2025, the Steering Committee voted unanimously to approve the draft Plan with a few items to be tweaked. The next step in the process is for the Planning Board to review, refine and adopt the Master Plan. This will occur in late March or early April.
